Alaa Murabit appointed High-Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth

Alaa Murabit has been appointed as a High-Level Commissioner on Health Employment and Economic Growth by the United Nations (UN). In her new role, Alaa Murabit  will help promote action to meet the global shortfall of trained health workers, achieve Universal Health Coverage, and meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

 

The High-Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth was appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon, and will be chaired jointly by President Francois Hollande of France and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa. Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) will serve as the co-vice chair along with Mr Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Mr Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). It will start its work during March 2016 and deliver its recommendations to Ban in September 2016.
